I find it very odd that I never read about all the advantages of making and using Charcoal.

In Bushcraft, Preppie, Survivalist, etc groups.

Just a few thoughts.

1) Easy to make.

2) Easy to light

3) Almost no visible Fames or Smoke.
Important for stealth and improved security.

4) Reduced accidental fires starting.

5) A far more controlled heatfor cooking or other fire uses.

6) A much hotter fire, with forced air you can Iron forge with it.

7) Can be used as a water filter.

8) Used with tree resin, makes a water proof, epoxy like glue that is applied Ina melted state like hot glue.

9) Can be used in gun power making.

10) Can be used with clay or lime to make a concrete like material.

11) Better way to store or carry wood fuel.

12) Etc, etc. etc.
